01 · Intro
A small sauna with regulars and a website from the day before yesterday.
Sauna Ronneburg is a sauna complex in eastern Thuringia: a men's sauna, a women's sauna, a mixed family sauna and an outdoor area. The business runs on regulars and word of mouth. The website next to it has stood still for years and barely answers the one question new guests actually have: when are you open, and for whom?
02 · Challenge
The existing site, unvarnished.
We surveyed the existing site before designing anything. What we found is written here as it is. None of it is a reproach to the owner. It is the starting point.
- WordPress 5.8, without updates for years
- The site runs over HTTP; the installed certificate does not match the domain
- At 390 pixels wide the content runs past the edge of the screen
- Opening hours sit in a table that gets cut off on a phone
- No directions, no map, no booking
- A cookie notice that covers half the page

03 · Strategy
Answer one question first.
Someone looking for a sauna decides in seconds, usually on a phone. So the structure hangs on a single question: are you open today, and am I allowed in? Everything else comes after. The opening hours move out of the table and to the top, showing today first, with a note on which sauna applies.
- Today and the type of sauna visible immediately
- Directions, phone and prices reachable without detours
- Men's, women's and family sauna clearly separated
- The rest of the page explains why it is worth the trip
04 · Design
Warm, calm, without the wellness cliché.
The visual language comes from the building itself: wood, steam, evening light, the outdoor area. No purchased pictures of other people's saunas. The typography stays large and calm, so the site also works for guests who are not holding reading glasses over a phone.
05 · Digital experience
Fast before pretty, then both.
The new site is built as a statically delivered application: no database to attack, no plugin chain to go stale. Opening hours and prices live in one place. What changes, changes there and nowhere else.
- Static delivery over HTTPS
- No plugins that need maintaining
- Opening hours maintained in one place
- Care contract with a fixed response time
06 · Mobile
The screen where the decision happens.
The screenshot shows the existing site at 390 pixels: the heading is cut off, the content runs off to the right. That is exactly where someone decides whether to call or keep scrolling. The new site is designed at this width first and scaled up afterwards.

07 · Details
The small things that save phone calls.
Closed days are shown as closed days, not as an empty row. The phone number is tappable on a phone. The address opens the maps app. Anyone wondering about towels, infusions or parking finds the answer without calling. And the legal notice contains what belongs in it.
08 · Outcome
Numbers will stand here later. Not yet.
The project is running. Once the new site is live and we have measured for three months, we will write down what changed: visits, calls, share of mobile traffic. Until then nothing stands here that we made up. That is our principle 01.
09 · Gallery
Captures of the existing site, taken on 10 September 2026. Images of the new site follow once it is live.
